Fire Threat Easing As Cool winds Arrive

Firefighters in New South Wales will be battling blazes into the night, though a change in wind conditions has brought some relief after the day's scorching temperatures.

Emergency warnings have been downgraded for all areas except west of Ryltone and Kandos in the the state's central west.

Almost 2,000 firefighters were on the ground today and 1,700 are still in the field as 90 blazes, some threatening homes, continue to burn.

Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan says 50 aircraft are also working around the state.

Temperatures on Sunday were sweltering; in Sydney, the mercury climbed to 42.5 degrees at the airport, while at Walgett, in the state's north-west, it reached 43 degrees.More;http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/11/22/2749999.htm
